Former 2396 Forbes Street, Victoria, BC

So this cool house used to be located at 2396 Forbes.

This guy looks like he had no idea he was being forever memorialized on Google Maps...

These pics are from Google's June 2009 street view (I just discovered that you can see past street view images! Awesome, right? This explains how to do it). A much better photo, from January 2010, can be seen on Flickr here. And here it is in the '70s:

Sure, it was pretty rundown by 2009/10, but it's really interesting, right? Well, sadly, it was demolished sometime between 2010 and 2012, because now there's a new house there.

Which is, incidentally, currently for sale as a foreclosure property [edit: no longer for sale; link now dead]. According to that site it was built in 2012.

I can't find anything online about the old one--its construction, inhabitants, or demolition--except the photos. And that's sad, because it was unique, and definitely looks older. It's a shame it wasn't saved and restored.

Most families that lived in the old house do not wish to relive the experience. I did live there with my mom and her boyfriend 38 years ago when we bought it. Repainted it light yellow with a green diamond in front and were in the middle of restoring it to its original glory when we were forced to flee our home in the middle of the night due to the evil that plagued the property. The house itself is just a gateway, it's the property thats haunted. We were told shortly after buying the old house that it was built on an old grave yard. I believe anypne who builds on that property will not stay long.

I'm basically an abandoned buildings nerd. I hardly ever go in them (scared to go on my own and don't know anyone who'd come with me), but I am fascinated by them and enjoy exploring and photographing the outsides.

I started this blog just to post my photos, but it's evolved into a history project where I also share the stories of the buildings (at least, as much as I can find using my Googling skills). Since I created this blog, several of the buildings I posted about have already been demolished, so these places definitely won't be around forever. Often they disappear with nothing left to document them, but hopefully this blog will serve to memorialize at least some, and answer the questions of anyone who's curious, like I was, about what the story behind that boarded up old house down the street is.

Update: I have such a big backlog of photos/notes/research on buildings in Victoria that for now I'm going to do a bunch of short posts, with photos and just a little info, and plan to update them later with more. If anyone has information or questions about any abandoned buildings around Victoria, let me know! I'd love to learn more and/or help provide info.
